The Drama and Dariya of Dariye's Return
No, I do not mean that the events leading to, during, and after the emergency rule in Plateau state were a drama. I am saddened by the death of the hundreds if not thousands and am certainly heat-broken by the revelations of London Mets.
However, what I characterize as the drama here is how those who persistently called for the re-instatement of the governor never addressed the exhibited incompetence and implied complicity of the governor in the massacre that ultimately led to the declaration of state of emergency in the state. While onlookers watch, the actors acted in typical fashion of dramatic irony. But it is not on that count alone that the actors seemed really pretentious. Their evasion of the issue of the governor's guestship of the London Mets forced anyone watching the theater to chuckle and then HE's first public speech came with the final act: ""My arrest in London was arranged from here [supposedly by his detractors] and I was warned that if I travel, I would be arrested. But I want to thank God for being on our side." That was the time I had no option but to let out my desperatedariya-laughter while asking myself 'Which God is he talking about?'
